First, put on some safety goggles and a dust mask, as paint and dust are not good for your lungs.
- Scrape off any peeling paint with a putty knife. Use some 150-grit or higher sandpaper, and clean off any dust.
- Patch the peeling area using a thin layer of patching compound and a putty knife. Leave this to dry. Apply a second coat, sand, and clean the ceiling.
- Prime the patch using an oil-based primer and leave this to dry.
- Paint the patch using a flat acrylic paint.
Sanding will allow your patching compound, primer, and paint to bond better. This reduces any chances of it starting to peel again.
